Care

Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Chasen) 

Before Use

• Before first use, soak the bamboo tines in warm (not boiling) water for 2–3 minutes to soften the bamboo and allow the inner tines to naturally open (bloom). This is normal and helps the whisk produce a smooth, frothy matcha while reducing the risk of breakage.
• Before each subsequent use, soak the tines in warm water for 1–2 minutes to keep them flexible during whisking.
• For best results, pre-warm the matcha bowl with hot water before use.

Cleaning

• Clean the whisk immediately after use to prevent matcha residue from drying on the bamboo.
• Fill the matcha bowl with clean, warm water and whisk briskly to remove any remaining matcha. Repeat with fresh water if required until clean. Alternatively, rinse the tines under a gentle stream of warm running water.
• If any residue remains, gently remove it using your fingers.
• Gently shake off excess water with the tines facing downward. Do not wring, twist or squeeze the tines, as this may damage or distort the bamboo.

Drying & After Care

• Allow the whisk to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area before storing.
• Dry and store the whisk on the included whisk holder (chasen holder) to help maintain the shape of the tines and promote even drying.
• Once fully dry, store in a cool, dry place away from excessive heat and humidity. Do not place the whisk in a sealed container or plastic packaging while damp.

Important

• This whisk is made from natural bamboo. Variations in colour, grain and the gradual opening of the tines with normal use are natural characteristics and do not affect performance.
• Do not use soap, detergents, bleach or abrasive cleaners, as bamboo may absorb these substances and they can affect the natural bamboo and the flavour of future beverages.
• Do not place the whisk in the dishwasher. High temperatures, strong detergents and high-pressure water may cause the bamboo to warp, crack, split or lose its shape.
• Replace the whisk if the tines become cracked, broken or excessively worn, as this may affect whisking performance.
