Kombucha Dinner Rolls

  • 3 cups plain flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt flakes
  • 1 cup kombucha (we used ginger and lemon flavour)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons milk, plus extra 2 tbsp for brushing
  • ⅓ cup white sesame seeds
How incredible do these homemade Kombucha Rolls look? We can almost smell the freshly baked bread from here. They're the perfect partner to soup, as a base for yummy sandwiches for picnics in the park or on their own lathered with heaps of butter!

Step 1

Preheat oven to 220°C fan forced oven. Grease and line of a deep-dish pizza tray with baking paper.

Step 2

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Add kombucha, honey, oil and milk and use hands to mix and gently knead to combine.

Step 3

Lightly flour a clean work surface. Add dough and fold and roll to create a smooth ball. Cut into 12 even pieces and roll under the palm of your hand to create a smooth ball.

Step 4

Transfer to prepared tray and continue with remaining dough pieces. Brush rolls with extra milk and scatter with sesame seeds.

Step 5

Reduce oven to 200°C. Splash a little water into the oven to create steam (this helps buns expand before forming a crust), then bake on the top shelf, for 30 minutes or until cooked through and golden.

Step 6

Stand to cool in pan then slice and serve with lashings of butter.


TIP: You can add ½ cup dried fruit and 1-2 tablespoon spices like cinnamon to these rolls and make them fruit rolls.
